In today’s competitive dive market – as it is any field – the more qualified you are, the better your job prospects will be. If you’re a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (or considering becoming one), the easiest way to enhance your marketability is to get certified to teach PADI specialty courses and even the Instructor Development Course.
As a basic OWSI, you can teach four of PADI’s 25 specialty courses – Peak Performance Buoyancy, Project AWARE, Project AWARE Coral Reef Conservation and (if they work in a National Geographic Dive Center like Aquanauts) the National Geographic Portal specialty. To teach the others, you’ll need to be certified for each course.
Once you can teach 5 specialties and certify 25 students (in any course, not just specialties), you can move up the PADI Professional ladder to Master Scuba Diver Trainer. By attaining this level, you tell employers can train dive students to the highest purely recreational dive level in the PADI system of education.
Aquanauts offers a 2-month internship package that will take you from OWSI to MSDT. As with all Aquanauts internships, it is 100% all-inclusive. You get all of the following plus two months unlimited fun diving:

If you really want to maximize your experience and marketability, you can get certified to teach instructors yourself! By becoming a PADI IDC Staff Instructor, you can independently train and certify PADI Assistant Instructors as well as help train PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors by teaching (along with a Course Director) the Instructor Development Course.
An IDC Staff Instructor certification shows you’ve gone beyond the basics of scuba diving instruction and are good enough that you can help train the next generation of OWSIs. It’s a title that leaps off the resume and shows you are committed to becoming the best PADI Professional you can.
To get there, enroll in the IDC Staff Instructor Internship. This 1-month program is all-inclusive and gives you you all of the following, including unlimited fun diving:
